Art Farers
(November 2009 – October 2011)
Art-Farers is a 24-month multinational project aimed at supporting transnational mobility initiatives in the filed of culture and among artists. The general project objectives are:
• To motivate artists to participate in mobility activities.
• To motivate local authorities to develop their artistic programmes, projects, policies.
• To design a procedure (protocol) that will enhance the transnational exchanges of volunteer artists.
• To bring in contact schools (teachers, students), educational and social welfare institutions/organisations (and people) with artists and different forms of artistic expression (theatre; dance; music-songs; fine arts, design, handmade artistic creations).
• To contribute to the artistic and cultural development of local communities in Europe.
The first year is dedicated to the elaboration, piloting and evaluation of an exchange model for volunteer artists among all partner countries, i.e. Latvia, Spain, Greece and Slovenia. Each partner has to create a group of 5 skilled popular artists from a different field of art (theatre, dance, music-songs and fine or digital arts) who want to participate as volunteers in pilot mobility activities. The latter will last for a week and will take place in all partner countries as follows:
• SI will send 5 volunteer artists to ES and will host 5 volunteer artists from GR
• GR will send 5 volunteer artists to SI and will host 5 volunteer artists from LV
• LV will send 5 volunteer artists to GR and will host 5 volunteer artists from ES
• ES will send 5 volunteer artists to LV and will host 5 volunteer artists from SI

The main task of the volunteer artists in the mobility activities refers to the teaching and training of people and organizations from the local communities of partners (such as schools and teachers-pupils-students, prisons and prisoners, houses for elderly and social workers-seniors, rehabilitation centres and social workers, drug addicts, etc.) their artistic expertise, in an effort to sensitize and to develop the relevant artistic level of the community. In return to their offer to the local community, the partners and the local authorities of the partners will offer them a high visibility promotional session (event), such as a press conference and/or a paid performance, concert or exhibition and/or meetings with agents and/or culture promoters.
The entire endeavour will be evaluated upon the completion of the first year.
The second year is dedicated to the spreading of the experience gained and to the further valorization of the results of the project, as well as the Commission’s initiative. Multifaceted actions will be realized at local and European level, such as partner’s nationwide awareness raising seminars for young artists and local authorities, a contact making & matching meeting involving ~20 key persons in the field of culture/representatives of municipalities from ~10 different EU MS, actions aimed at engaging journalists and media, creation of project’s website for interaction, versatile briefings with people and entities who organize festivals and cultural events, dispatch of information and promotional note to a number of agencies throughout Europe and beyond, elaboration of an assessment survey and an evaluation report, production and distribution of promotional leaflets.
